Spain - MetroSur Madrid - Circular metro line

The southern metropolitan area is an extensive regional area with 1 million inhabitants. It includes 5 towns with more than 140,000 inhabitants and several medium-sized ones of 20 and 70 thousand inhabitants

The past dependence of these population centres with respect to the city of Madrid was based on a radial road network and a public transport system which accentuated this functional dependence. The transformation of these towns over the last decade has been emphasised by a better balanced use of the territory, covering the development of services and basic infrastructure such as hospitals, universities, shopping and leisure centres, etc.

MetroSur is the venture the Madrid Regional Government has wagered to reinforce development in the southern region, constructing a circular metro line linking 5 major towns to each other and with other towns – MetroSur is totally integrated with Lines C-3, C-4 and C-5 of the suburban commuter railway.

- direct access to universities, major hospitals, and service, commercial and leisure areas.

Costs - including design, construction and mobile units: 1 176 000 euros
