The pipeline as projected will start near gas fields in Southern Bolivia and run through Northern Argentina, where it connects up with that country’s pipeline network and from where a spur will cut across to Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay. The pipeline will enter Brazil at the western frontier of Santa Catarina State and run for 3,450 km (2,160 miles) inside Brazil, reaching the capital of Brasilia.
The main pipeline and its branches will supply gas to major centers such as Pelotas (RS), Santa Maria (RS), Xanxerê (SC), Maringá (PR), Londrina (PR), Araraquara (SP), Riberão Preto (SP), Uberaba (MG), Uberlândia (MG) and Goiânia (GO), as well as other cities along the way. The area of immediate impact is roughly 350,000 sq. km (137,000 sq. miles), around 4% of total Brazilian territory.
